AEL Environment has over 25 years of expertise in soil management and related services. From on-site contaminant screening and characterization to consulting and regulatory reporting, we offer comprehensive support pertaining to the beneficial reuse of soil, in compliance with Ontario’s soil management regulations (O. Reg. 406/19). Our experience, expertise and efficiency can benefit both excess soil generators and recipients, while saving them time and money.

Excess Soil Generation

Land developers, project managers and contractors on Source Sites often encounter excess soil generated from activities like construction, landscaping, or infrastructure projects, where soil is excavated or displaced. It can include various materials such as subsoil, sand, clay, or organic matter, but also has the potential to get mixed with construction debris or even to be contaminated.

Having an upfront plan to manage excess soil is crucial because transport and disposal costs can make a big impact on a project budget. AEL’s experienced team will evaluate your site-specific goals and soil characteristics to provide a recommended approach for your project’s excess soil management, and we can help implement that plan through soil testing, reporting, re-use, remediation or disposal, as necessary.

Support for Soil Receiving Sites

Soil receiving sites tend to be tied to construction projects where developers and land owners typically need clean fill to raise elevation or change the contours of a property to support activities such as land grading, supporting foundations, re-filling excavations or highway work.

The introduction of O.Reg. 406/19 in 2021 provides some assurance to receiving and reuse site, that the origins and quality of the fill they are receiving has been tested to meet acceptable standards for its intended use, and that there is supporting documentation, reviewed by a qualified professional.

What Our Customers Have To Say

In my two decades plus as a specialist in Environmental Law, I have dealt with numerous environmental consulting firms right across Canada, and from big to small. Not all of them are able to deal with sophisticated scientific questions and not all of the ones with greater scientific skills are practical. AEL Environment have the necessary science skills and their advice is always practical. They have never failed to help me and my clients.
