At AEL Environment, we recognize that our work takes place on lands that have been stewarded by Indigenous Peoples long before our own arrival and settlement.
In Mississauga, where we are headquartered, we acknowledge the lands as being part of the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and The Huron-Wendat and Wyandot Nations, and their ancestors.
Across Ontario, we acknowledge the traditional territory of many nations, including the the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, Cree, Oji-Cree, Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and that this land is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples and is governed by historic and modern treaties, including the Robinson-Huron, Robinson-Superior, other Treaty agreements.
Throughout Canada, we recognize the deep histories, cultures, and rights of Indigenous Nations:
- In the Atlantic provinces (Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick), we acknowledge the traditional lands of the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), Beothuk, Innu, and Inuit peoples, covered in part by the historic Peace and Friendship Treaties.
- In Quebec, we acknowledge the territories of the Cree, Innu, Atikamekw, Huron-Wendat, Inuit, Mohawk, and many other First Nations, connected to both historic and ongoing treaty relationships.
- In the Prairie provinces (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta), we recognize the traditional territories of the Cree, Dakota, Dene, Anishinaabe, Nakota, Blackfoot Confederacy, and Métis Nation, much of which is covered by Numbered Treaties.
- In British Columbia, we acknowledge the lands of more than 200 distinct First Nations and Indigenous communities, many of which remain unceded and unsurrendered territories.
- In Canada’s North (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut), we recognize the Inuit, Inuvialuit, Dene, and Métis peoples, whose rights and lands are affirmed through both historic and modern treaties and self-government agreements.
