On-Site Environmental Testing

The use of on-site environmental testing for soil and groundwater provides accurate, real-time results. Subsets of these on-site testing samples are then sent to a CALA-certified laboratory for confirmatory testing, in accordance with regulation.

Preparation is an important aspect of reliable testing. Before stepping foot on your property, we have already selected the appropriate sampling equipment, according to contaminants and site conditions. A plan has been developed for the collection of initial samples.

AEL has a mobile lab trailer, with equipment at the ready, which can be used regardless of weather conditions to allow samples to be analyzed quickly and efficiently. From there, we begin an iterative sampling process. Samples are gathered (from surface soil, boreholes, or pits) and then carefully prepared for analysis. The analysis yields precise and accurate results. This new information will assist the project manager in selecting specific areas for further sampling.

On-site testing provides much more information than a few traditional laboratory samples. This information can guide our team of experts directly to areas of contamination and allow us to focus on delineating impacts very quickly.

AEL’s on-site testing data can be imported into GIS-based data management and analysis software to generate real-time site maps and cross-sections, indicating contaminant trends and information gaps. This allows our experienced staff to confidently direct field work, lead remediation projects and communicate results, without wasting time.

Through our use of on-site testing, AEL is at the forefront of technology in environmental engineering innovations in Canada. Using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Ultraviolet Fluorescence (UVF)Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), and other tools, we can efficiently screen a high quantity of samples within minutes. Screening data supplies our team with a quick and accurate picture of any contamination present on-site. It also creates a better site understanding at a low cost. Select samples are then forwarded for laboratory analysis at a certified CALA laboratory.
