Supporting you with Fuel Storage Tank Removal
When it’s time to decommission or replace your fuel storage tanks, proper removal is essential. AEL will oversee the process to ensure tanks and impacted soils (if present) are removed safely, cleanly, and in full compliance with environmental regulations.
A typical UST tank removal process includes:
- Obtaining public and private locates to confirm the location of underground utilities
- Locating, pumping, cleaning, excavation and extraction of fuel storage tank and, often, associated pipes
- Excavation and disposal of impacted soils (if present)
- Field screening soil excavations using portable testing equipment to identify identify potential contamination and / or anticipated clean perimeter borders and base of the excavations.
- Collect excavation floor closure samples and excavation side wall closure samples plus 10% quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) duplicates as per O. Reg. 153/04, prior to backfilling.
- All closure samples and duplicates to be analyzed by a laboratory certified by the Canadian Association of Laboratory Accreditation (CALA).
- AEL will prepare a letter report containing results of collected closure soil samples, signed by Qualified Person under O. Reg. 153/04, delivered electronically.
- AEL can provide direction and documentation per O. Reg. 406/19 for soils to be transported to a licenced disposal facility or beneficial re-use site.
